DAY 1
Arrival in Uganda - Entebbe.
Arrival in Uganda - Entebbe.
Your adventure begins with an early morning departure from either Entebbe / Kampala (approx. 8–9 hours). You will enjoy a scenic drive through Uganda’s breathtaking landscapes—rural villages, rolling hills, and dense forests. There will be a brief stop at the Equator for a chance to take photos and stretch your legs. The journey continues as you wind through tea plantations and into the misty Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Upon arrival, check into your lodge, where you’ll enjoy a peaceful evening, resting up for the exciting trek ahead. (En route lunch). Main Destination: Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Accommodation: (Mid - range) Meals: Lunch and Dinner. Drinks: Bottled water. NB: (Its possible to be picked and dropped at Kigali International Airport at a cost).

DAY 2
Gorilla Trekking Experience.
Gorilla Trekking Experience.
After an early breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a per-trek briefing from your expert guide. This briefing covers important information on gorilla behavior and trekking etiquette. Accompanied by a team of guides and rangers, venture into the dense forest in search of the gorillas. The trek can take anywhere from 2 to 3 hours depending on the location of the gorilla family. Once you find the gorillas, you’ll have an hour to observe and photograph these majestic creatures up close. Watching the gorillas interact in their natural environment is an awe-inspiring and humbling experience. After the trek, you’ll return to your lodge to relax and reflect on your adventure. (enjoy some lunch and relax). After a long relaxation, you will head for the Batwa cultural experience and learn about their way of living in the forest, craft skills, cultivation and culinary. Later on, return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay. Optional, you may head for a long guided nature walk, bird watching experience. Main Destination: Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Accommodation: (Mid - range) Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. Drinks: Bottled water.

DAY 3
Transfer back to Entebbe / Kampala.
Transfer back to Entebbe / Kampala.
After a relaxed breakfast, you have the option to take a short village walk to visit the local communities and learn about their culture and lifestyle or visit Lake Bunyonyi at a cost. Thereafter, begin your journey back to Kampala or Entebbe approx 8-9 hours drive, arriving in the late afternoon or evening. If your return flight is from Kigali, we’ll take you across the border to Rwanda for more adventure. Main Destination: Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Accommodation: (Mid - range) Meals: Breakfast & en route lunch. Drinks: Bottled water.

What is the best time of year to go gorilla trekking in Bwindi?

The best time to visit Bwindi for gorilla trekking is during the dry seasons from June to August and December to February. During these months, the trails are less slippery, making the trek easier. But also it can be visited any time of the year.

How physically demanding is gorilla trekking?

Gorilla trekking can be physically challenging, as the hike may involve walking for 2 to 4 hours through steep, muddy, and dense forests. A moderate level of fitness is recommended.

How many hours will I spend with the gorillas?

Visitors are allowed one hour with the mountain gorillas once they are located. This time allows you to observe their behavior and take photos, while maintaining a safe distance.

What should I wear for gorilla trekking?

It's recommended to wear long-sleeved shirts, waterproof hiking boots, gloves, and long trousers to protect yourself from stinging plants, insects, and cold temperatures. Don't forget to bring a waterproof jacket as it can rain anytime in Bwindi.

Is there an age limit for gorilla trekking?

Yes, the minimum age for gorilla trekking is 15 years. This is to ensure the safety of both the trekkers and the gorillas, as younger children may find the trek too demanding or may not be able to follow the rules.

How close can I get to the gorillas?

You are required to maintain a distance of at least 7 meters (21 feet) from the gorillas. This minimizes the risk of transmitting diseases to the gorillas and ensures their comfort.

What happens if I don’t see gorillas during the trek?

Although it’s rare, there is a small chance of not encountering gorillas, as they are wild animals and move freely. However, park authorities try to track their movements to increase the chances of a successful encounter. In most cases, visitors do see gorillas.

What other activities can I do in Bwindi besides gorilla trekking?

Bwindi offers various activities, including nature walks, visiting local communities such as the Batwa pygmies, bird watching (Bwindi is home to over 350 bird species), and exploring waterfalls.

Is it safe to trek in Bwindi?

Yes, gorilla trekking is generally safe. Trekkers are accompanied by experienced guides and armed rangers for protection against potential dangers from wildlife. Additionally, the rangers will brief you on safety protocols before the trek.

Do I need to bring food and water for the trek?

Yes, you should carry enough water (at least 2 liters) and some energy snacks or a packed lunch. Your lodge or tour operator will usually provide this for you, but check in advance.

Are there health precautions I should take before the trek?

Yes, Bwindi is a malaria-prone area, so it's advisable to take anti-malaria medication and bring insect repellent. You should also ensure you're up to date with routine vaccines like yellow fever, typhoid, and hepatitis. It’s always good to check with your healthcare provider before traveling.

Do I need to tip the guides and porters?

While tipping is not mandatory, it is appreciated. A general guideline is around USD 10-15 per person for guides and USD 5-10 for porters. Porters can be hired to carry your backpack and help you during the trek.
